By Sam Hossack | Sudbury Lady Wolves

Two members of the Sudbury Lady Wolves U18 AA program proudly represented their communities and province on one of the biggest stages in Indigenous hockey, as Aleah Restoule (Dokis First Nation) and Trinity Cheechoo (Wikwemikong Unceded Territory) were selected to Team Ontario for the 23rd Annual National Aboriginal Hockey Championships, held May 3–9 at the Co-operators Centre in Regina.

Ontario opened the round robin in dominant fashion with a 7-0 victory over Alberta, led in part by a strong performance from Cheechoo, who recorded a goal and an assist, while Restoule added an assist of her own.

Ontario continued its momentum in Game 2 with another convincing 7-0 win, this time over Quebec, with Cheechoo once again contributing offensively with a goal and an assist.

In Game 3, Ontario battled Alberta to a thrilling 5-5 draw, with Cheechoo continuing her impressive tournament by adding another goal and assist performance.

Ontario closed out the round robin with a hard-fought 3-2 victory over British Columbia, securing a spot in the semi-finals.

Ontario’s tournament run came to an end in a tightly contested 4-3 semi-final loss to Alberta, before falling 2-0 to British Columbia in the bronze medal game.

Cheechoo finished the championship as one of Ontario’s top offensive contributors, posting six points in six games with three goals and three assists, while Restoule appeared in all six games and recorded one assist.

The Sudbury Lady Wolves U18 AA program congratulates both athletes on this tremendous accomplishment and for proudly representing their communities, Team Ontario, and Northern Ontario on the national stage.
